Apple always does excellently in supporting its older iPhone and iPad models for a long time. With iOS 12 version, the iPhone 5s, which it had first released in 2013.
However, although the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and higher can update to the iOS 12, that does not mean they have access to all the new features that Apple will be debuting with the latest OS release. Apple will not be adding certain iOS 12 features to the older devices and just keep them exclusive to the iPhone XS series and the last year iPhone X.
iPhones Supported iOS 12 Version
Before talking about what iOS features are not reaching to older devices, it is important to take note the list of devices compatible with iOS 12:

The most impressive thing about iOS 12 is that it supports all the devices which are currently running iOS 11 version. Furthermore, the major improvement that is performance improvements, is available for all older iOS models as well. But, as mentioned, there are some iOS features that are not coming to older iPhones/iPads
iOS 12 Features Not Coming to Older iPhones
This new feature in iOS 12 will be only exclusive to iPhone XS lineup. On these new models, it allows users to control the depth effect after taking a shot in portrait mode. On the older iPhone models such as iPhone X, iPhone 8/8 plus, it’s impossible due to the lack of the A12 chipset.
Siri Suggestions for Shortcuts
According to Apple, Siri Shortcuts app will be available for all iOS devices running iOS 12, but we’re sure old models like the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus won’t get certain features of the app. Specifically, the AI-based Siri Suggestions will not be handy for these devices, which means the Shortcuts app cannot automatically suggest Shortcuts for you, depending on your daily use.

Due to the shortage of the required hardware, Memoji in iOS 12 will absolutely be available for almost old iPhones, starting from the iPhone 5s. The only exception here is only the iPhone X which comes with a TrueDepth camera for Memoji feature.
Having learned from Instagram and Snapchat, Apple has already added filters, stickers, and even text effects to the camera app in Messages and FaceTime app. With this new feature, iOS 12 users will be able to add effects to their photos before sharing it with other people. But, this feature is only available on the iPhone 6s and later models, the 6th gen. iPod, the 2nd generation 10.5-inch, and 12.0-inch iPad Pro devices.
For now, there are a few hours left, the iOS 12 will officially hit all supported iOS devices. You will be able to taste the new update soon. One thing you should note that, any iOS 11 features which did not support older iPhones, will continue to stay away for them. Those features include Portrait Lighting, Animoji, Navigation Gestures, and Apple Pay Cash.
