Solutions to troubleshoot iPhone XS with Siri not working

Before getting started, you should make sure and verify that you need to set up Siri so that it can recognize your voice. If you have not yet set up Siri on your iPhone XS, here is what you should do first:

  1. Head to Settings app from the Home screen.
  2. Scroll down and then tap on Siri & Search.
  3. In order to set up Siri for recognizing your voice, tap on Listen to Siri option.
  4. Follow the rest of the onscreen prompts to complete setting up your personal assistant.

To check if Siri is working perfectly, simply say “Hey Siri” to your phone and wait for it to realize your voice to wake up Siri promptly.

You can also wake up Siri just by pressing and holding the Side button for about 3 seconds and then release it. Siri will open and be ready to perform your input commands.

Solution 1: Refresh Siri on your iPhone XS

Similar to other iOS apps and system services, Siri might misbehave or get unstable after the iOS 12.14 update. To help the app work normally again, all you is to refresh it. To do so:

  1. Head to Settings from your Home screen.
  2. Tap on Siri & Search.
  3. Toggle the Listen for “Hey Siri” switch to disable the feature and then enable it back on.

It will give Siri a quick refresh and get it back to its normal operation.

Solution 2: Restart your iPhone XS

Another simple solution, but effective to remove app glitches is performing a simple reboot on your iPhone. The process will clear out memory caches that were corrupted from the iOS update, which have caused Siri to work incorrectly. You do not need to back up files because the process will not affect any saved data on your phone memory. Here is how to do a soft reset on your iPhone:

  1. Press and hold the Power button along with one of two Volume buttons simultaneously.
  2. Release them when you see the Slide to Power Off command on the screen and then drag the slider to the right to power it off.
  3. After 1 minute, press and hold the Power button again to turn on your phone.

Wait for your iPhone to boot up completely and then try to say “Hey Siri” to wake up Siri and issue commands.

Solution 3: Check restrictions for Siri app

Apps that are restricted on your iPhone might not carry out certain tasks or fail to work at all. The update could have overridden your settings and accidentally enabled restrictions for Siri, which resulted to Siri suddenly not working on your iPhone. To fix it, you should check your iPhone restrictions and make adjustments for Siri app if necessary. To do so:

  1. Open Settings from your Home screen.
  2. Tap on Screen Time.
  3. Choose Content & Privacy Restrictions option
  4. Follow the onscreen prompts to disable restrictions for Siri.

After you make changes, you can restart your iPhone to refresh iOS apps and other built-in services on your device. Say “Hey Siri” to your iPhone to wake it up.
