WatchOS 6 update brings a new look for Apple Watch Series 4. The major part of this WatchOS version is going to half a number of new watch faces. Additionally, there are few new Apple apps and specialized features in WatchOS 6 version. Read on this post to find out the new things in the new watchOS 6 version.
WatchOS 6: New Features
watchOS 6 also comes with the new updates for iPhone models. To learn about the new features in iOS 13, check out our post for what’s new in iOS 13
App Store in WatchOS 6
The Greatest thing in watchOS 6 is that the App Store is now available for Apple Watch. From now, developers can build independent apps for Apple Watches and they can be installed independently without the need for an iPhone counterpart. There will not anything installed on the paired iPhone automatically.
Watch App Store is now available here and you can search manually for your favorite apps and install them on your Watch easy as pie. Searching with the help of Siri dictation and scribbling also works well.
New WatchOS Faces
The new watchOS 6 has a number of new watch faces, but they are just available for the latest Apple Watch Series 4. One of the attractive faces is Solar Dial watch face. It is created from the old solar watch face with an analog route. You will also see a special solar dial of the analog dial in the middle. It lets you add 4 complications outside the analog dial.
The modular watch face is finally compatible with the Series 4 screen. You will see a huge analog or digital watch face on the left and you can easily customize the three leftover complications.
With the gradient watch face, you will get the minimalist colorful option. Simply choose your favorite color and a gradient watch face will automatically be created where the minute hand lands.
The California watch face displays a classic Rolex style watch face for your Apple Watch. You might find it’s cool in both the full-screen mode and the circular view. There are multiple color combinations for the analog watch face. Switching between different indices from Roman numerals to Arabic, or Hindi, pill shapes is pretty simple.
In WatchOS 6, Apple has also added two new Numerals Watch faces that are Mono and Duo. Mono just shows the hour while Duo will display both the hour and the minute as the main background.
New System Apps
In WatchOS 6, Apple finally added a Calculator app for Apple Watches. Unlike third-party apps, it includes many important features just on a screen. You can find the standard number pad as well as the function on the right. There is also a tip feature and you can easily add it and split the bill.
You can find a standalone app for Audiobooks in this new version. Although you still see the same icon as the Apple Books app, you can now be able to access your Audiobook collection from the Books app. Browsing to the store is now impossible. However, if you have previously added an audiobook to your library, it still shows up here. The best thing here is that if you have a Cellular Watch, streaming Audiobooks can be done from anywhere.
Voice Memos App
The Voice Memos app is now pretty simple. Simply launch the app, tap on the record button and the recording will get started. To stop it, just tap on the record button again. You can find all the recordings from the list. To play it back, tap on one.
The new Reminders app in WatchOS 6 version goes hand in hand with the new iOS 13 for iPhone. You can find a big button when you want to create a new reminder after opening the app, which is something missing in the Reminders app on iPhone. You can easily create a reminder with your voice or by scribbling the letters with your fingers. All the lists will be available in the app. Just tap on a list to see all your reminders.
Stream Music, Radio and Podcasts Through Third Party Apps
This will be a very exciting feature once the official watchOS 6 version is released in September. The final build allows streaming features for music apps, radio apps, as well as podcast apps. A few apps like Spotify and Overcast can easily stream media from their servers on your Apple Watch without the need for your iPhone. It is an extremely great feature for Apple Watches supporting Cellular connection.
Siri Search Results
Siri is becoming smarter in watchOS 6. You can now see full web pages from Siri results directly on your Apple Watch.
Send Memoji Stickers from Your Watch
If you have already created a Memoji on your iPhone, the related Memoji stickers will also display on your paired Apple Watch. You can quickly reply to a message using Animoji or recently created Memoji stickers.
Cycle Tracking App
A new Cycle Tracking app is also pre-loaded on WatchOS 6. If you are a woman, you will find it interesting when it is a menstrual cycle tracking app. You can input the period dates, flow frequency and even record symptoms. You will receive notifications from your Watch about period time frames.
New Noise App
The new Noise app can now measure the levels of the environment that you are in. If it’s loud, you will get a warning about it and you should step out to protect your hearing. Open the app and you can monitor the decibel levels of the current environment at any given time.
New Now Playing Screen
The Now Playing feature is now becoming a real app in WatchOS 6 version when Apple has redesigned it. The circle around the Play/Pause button now displays the process of the song that media playing on your Watch. There is also quick access to options such as AirPlay and the Up Next queue.
