How To Fix “Insufficient Storage Available” Error

All of us know that the amount of memory space is never as high as its specification on the paper, so this is where the problem starts. For example, a device with 64GB will never have this much space left for you to install apps or games. The fact is known by many users and it just irritates them when going through an installation process of important apps, but ends up encountering an error message ‘Insufficient storage available’.  What is happening here? Your Android device is still sufficient storage available to install the app, it requires short of space to execute it and that’s the reason why the app installation is failed even when it takes less space than the available storage on your device. If you are in the same trouble when installing or updating apps on your Android device, here are solutions that can be applied to fix the error.

Solutions to fix “insufficient storage available” error

Solution 1: Wipe cache files on your device

Clearing the cache is the first solutions you should try to fix the insufficient storage problem. Simply follow these steps below to get it done.

  1. From your Home screen, open Settings app and then head to Application/App option.
  2. Move to the downloaded section and you will see all the downloaded apps and space occupied by them.
  3. Tap on more buttons and choose ‘sort by size’ to re-arrange apps on the order.
  4. Select a specific app showing the storage occupied by it, its data.
  5. Choose storage > clear cache and empty cache.
  6. Repeat the same process all your third-party apps.

You can also delete cache files for all the apps by following these steps below:

  1. Launch the Settings menu of your Android device
  2. Tap on Storage and search for cached data

There will be a pop-up prompting you whether you want to delete all the cache data. Just tap on OK to delete all the app data.

Solution 2: Use a Third Party App

Another great solution to fix the “insufficient storage available” error on your Android device is to download and install a 2MB app from the Google play store. If your phone is not enough space for this 2 MB app, you should first remove an unused app or unnecessary files. Remember to remove it from your Internal storage. Once you are done, simply follow the below steps to use the app.

  1. Open Google Play Store on your phone
  2. Search for and download App Cache Cleaner
  3. Install it on your device and it will then show up individual apps with large cache data. Click on the Recycle icon next to it to delete these cached data manually or tap on ‘clear all’ button at the bottom to delete cache for all apps. When you are done, the ‘Out of Space’ or ‘insufficient storage available’ will disappear on your device.

Solution 3: Perform a dump state clearance

Even after you have already removed and cleared cache, but you still encounter this error, you should then perform a dump state clearance. Here are steps you can do so:

  1. Open Dialer app on your device
  2. Dial *#9900# on the keyboard
  3. You will then access the SysDump menu
  4. Tap on Delete Dumpstate/logcat button and tap OK to confirm it
  5. Select Exit at the menu bottom of the screen

Once you are done, you will see an amount of space left on your Android device.

Solution 4: Move Your Apps To Your SD card

Android developers are encouraged to create apps over 10 MB in term of size so that they can be movable to the SD card. Although this choice is for developers, you can also have certain apps from the list app moved your device’s SD card. Doing so will help your phone internal storage have more space to install other apps. To get it done:

  1. Open the Settings menu on your device
  2. Tap on Apps/Application
  3. Next, sort the app by size to see apps with the largest size on the top. Check for the “Move to SD card” option next to the app. If the app allows it, you will see this button highlighted, while the apps that do not allow the move, the button is grayed out.

If you have the option to move the ones, you should do that to free up more some space in your device’s internal storage. If your phone does not support micro SD card slot, then you should skip this method.

Solution 5: Use Cloud Storage

If you are a smart smartphone user and you usually end up installing too many apps, then you should think about using cloud storage. This service can store all your files securely in the cloud, which help you more space to store the apps you want to install. There are a number of cloud storage available such as Dropbox, Google Drive and you can choose the best one that you feel the most comfortable with.

You will be able to save up a lot of space by following these methods above. Additionally, they can also help you fix “the insufficient space available” error on your phone so that you can still enjoy downloading and installing all the apps you like on your device.
