The problems with HBO Go problems are quite common and they usually strike at the worst time like you sit down for Game of Thrones. I know you don’t want to spend too much time searching for a fix.
If you are encountering the crashing or buffering during a show and sign in problems, I have covered a few ways to fix them on your own without waiting for the official solution from HBO, or the satellite company to help you out.
Since HBO Go problems are more complicated than HBO Now’s, you will need more time to resolve them. The problems can be with HBO Go, your cable, the Internet connection or your satellite.
This post will help you find out whether or not HBO Go is down and walk you through solutions to solve HBO Go problems on supported devices such as iPhone, Android, Apple TV, Xbox One, and other ones.
Is HBO Go Down?
If you start facing HBO Go problems, you should first check if HBO Go is down. You can report it on HBO Go’s Twitter support page or check Down Detector to see if HBO Go problems are already widespread.
If other people are also complaining about HBO Go problems, there is a chance the service is down and it seems you can do nothing to fix it until the company resolves an issue on their end.
If you are encountering one of the specific issues, check below for more help. Even when the problem is already widespread, you should also check on another device and reboot your device and check if that fixes the problem.
Fix HBO Go Sign-In Problems
The most common issue with HBO Go is the sign in problem. HBO Go requires connecting to your cable or satellite account to confirm your subscription. To sign in, use your cable company for the login and then HBO will then validate this with your subscription.
If you are not able to sign in, visit your cable or satellite company website and try signing in from there. In case you can sign in your account, check, then verify your password and return. You can try resetting your password or contact with logging in if If you can not log in.
After your password has been fixed, you can now sign in. You should now restart the app or your device to sign in if the problem still persists.
Fix HBO Go Streaming Problems
If the HBO Go streaming sessions are buffering, dropped streams, lagging, you can then resolve some of these problems yourself.
The first thing you need to do is restarting your device. If it doesn’t fix it, check if you are able to stream on another device. If it is limited in one area, you may need a stronger Wi-Fi connection. Here you can find some good routers to fix that issue.
But, before thinking about a new router, you should restart your router by unplugging it for 1 minute and plugging it back again. If you still encounter the issues, you can run a speedtest and check if there is a good connection. The speed is at least 3Mbps if you want to use HBO Go, and you should expect more than that speed with most Internet plans.
Fix HBO GO Subscription Problems
Another annoying HBO Go problem is that the app could not find your subscription data when you try to sign in. If you are also in the same trouble, here are a few things you can try.
The first thing you should try is logging in your account and check if HBO is listed with the company that you get your TV subscription through. If you see it there, restart your device, and then check for an app update. After that, sign your account back in.
If it does not fix the issue, you can start with your TV service support or contact HBO. If DirecTV is available, you should skip AT&T Twitter support and call in for more help.
Fix HBO Go Service Error Problems
If you deal with HBO Go Service Error, takes some action on your own to fix the issue without contacting HBO. To solve it:
- First, check for an app update.
- After that, restart your device.
- Try to play a show or movie.
- Try with another device.
- Check specific troubleshooting on HBO
- Restart your router or modem.
It’s an involved process; you can fix this annoying error on HBO. If it does not help, you can contact HBO for help.
Fix HBO Go App Problems
If your HBO Go app gets crashed on your iPhone, Android, XBox One, Apple TV or PlayStation, you can fix it with ease.
The first thing is checking for updates on your device from the App Store. HBO is working hard to fix bugs and problems with updates that can be installed just in few minutes.
You can also check if there is a new update for your device. Some consoles and smart TVs will automatically install updates, but you should still head to settings and check for an update.
If it could not fix the problem, you can delete the app, restart your device and re-install it. This method has already helped me fix the HBO Go crashing issue on my iPhone.
Fix HBO Go Audio Problems
If you miss sound when using HBO Go on your device, the first thing is to check if it works with headphones. If you are using HBO Go on a smartphone, check to toggle the mute switch off. This simple trick can fix a lot of issues.
The next thing you should try is to restart your device and checking the connection to a sound bar if you use HBO GO on a TV. Sometimes, restarting your TV and soundbar could effectively fix these issues.
You can also check to see if there is an update for your device or if there are any driver updates if you are trying to watch on PC.
Fix HBO Go HDCP Errors
If there is an HBO GO HDCP error, it means the copy protection isn’t working, resulting to that you are not able to watch HBO on your device. This error is not due to an actual problem, but it’s a handshake issue. To bring HDCP back to work, your device and your TV need to be connected to each other through the HDMI cable.
When you see this error, the simplest way to fix this is powering off your TV and your device. After that, turn it back on and check if the error already disappears. This simple trick is very effective in fixing HBO Go HDCP problems. If not, you should prepare an HDMI cable or unplug and then plug your current cable again.
Fix HBO GO Not in Service Area Problems
The HBO Go Not in Service Area error is an annoying error, but you can fix it with ease. This usually occurs when you use the service outside of the US as well as its territories. If you usually go aboard, you are out of luck. However, if you are in one of these areas, you can fix this problem easily. To do so:
- Power off your device first.
- Disconnect the power to your router or modem,
- Wait for about 1 minute and power on your modem
- Wait for it to reconnect.
- Enable the power for your router and wait.
- Turn on your device and launch HBO GO app
- Try playing a video on HBO Go.
The problem will be fixed, but there will be a new IP address. You can check your new IP address here to know if it belongs to the U.S. or a territory. If it does not help you, disable any VPN or proxy and then try it again.
Fix HBO Go Video Problems
HBO Go video problems appear due to slow speeds on your Wi-Fi or on your data connection. You can visit Speedtest website to check the speed of your connection. If it is under 3Mbps, the connection is the issue. To fix it, enable the Airplane mode, wait for 10 seconds and disable it.
If you are not able to watch HBO GO on your computer, simply restart your browser and try it again. You can also update Adobe Flash plugin on your device.
