How to fix an Apple iPhone XR not connecting to App Store

You have just grabbed a new iPhone XR and you want to install your favorite apps on the new phone. However, there is a problem with installing the app when your new iPhone XR cannot connect to the App Store due to unknown reasons. While it’s a bummer, there are a number of simple solutions you should try.

If you are looking for some inputs, then this post got you covered. You simply work through these methods below to fix your Apple iPhone XR not connecting to Apple Store.

How to fix iPhone XR not connecting to App Store

Before we start, you should first check the App Store server status to know whether it’s currently available. You can then check this information from Apple’s system status page. If the App Store is unavailable, then the problem might come from a server outage and that could only be solved by Apple Support. Unfortunately, you can do nothing yourself and just wait until the server is running again. Otherwise, you can try the following solutions.

Solution 1: Check your Internet connection

Internet access is required for online apps and services on your new iPhone to work properly. That also applies to the App Store. Without an Internet connection, the app could not be able to connect to the Apple server. To ensure this isn’t the main problem, you should ensure that your iPhone is already connected to an Internet connection. First, you should try to disable Wi-Fi and then toggle it back on, which might help to clear out minor errors causing random Internet issues and preventing the App Store from working properly on your iPhone XR. So here’s how to do so:

  1. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap on Wi-Fi.
  3. Toggle the Wi-Fi switch to OFF.
  4. Wait for a few seconds, toggle the switch again to re-enable Wi-Fi.

Another easy way to refresh Wi-Fi on your phone is using the Airplane Mode. Simply enable Airplane mode from Control Center for a few seconds and then disable it again.

Wait for your phone to reconnect to Wi-Fi and then test your Internet connection by opening a browser app and visiting a website to check if it loads properly. If it does, that means the problem isn’t the Internet.

Solution 2: Force close App Store and reboot your iPhone XR

The App Store might sometimes encounter random glitches and then goes rogue as other apps. It is not working as intended when this happens. So, to fix this issue, you should clear the App Store first. Here is how to get it done:

  1. From your Home screen, swipe your finger up from the bottom for a few seconds and then pause it.
  2. Swipe right or left to switch among app previews.
  3. Then swipe up App Store preview to force close it.

We recommend you to clear them all to ensure there are not any background apps causing conflict with App Store. After force closing App Store, other apps running in the background, simply reboot your iPhone XR by following these steps:

  1. Press & hold the  Power button for a few seconds.
  2. Release it when you see the Slide to Power Off command.
  3. Drag the slider to the right to power your iPhone off
  4. Wait for a minute, press and hold the Power button again until the Apple logo appears.

Doing this will clear minor software issues that have already halted the App Store operations and prevented your iPhone XR from connecting to App Store.

Solution 3: Update your iPhone XR to the latest iOS version

App problems attributed to software bugs are usually fixed by a new iOS update. New iOS updates from Apple include fix patches to address existing issues and system bugs. So, you should then manually check for any new OTA update(s) and install it on your iPhone XR. Here’s how to do so:

  1. Launch Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap on General > Software Update.

Check if there is an update notification of a new iOS version on your iPhone. However, before installing the update, you are recommended to create a backup of critical files stored on your phone. Doing so make sure that you can still recover them if something goes wrong. After installing the new update, you should reboot your iPhone to apply the recent changes. After that, launch the App Store again and check if your iPhone can now connect to it normally.

Solution 4: Reset all settings on your iPhone XR

Resetting all settings on your iPhone might affect other app’s operations. But, if your new iPhone cannot connect to the App Store after you make some changes to settings, then incorrect settings might be the cause of the problem. Simply follow these steps to erase all customized settings on your iPhone and reset it to the original configuration.

  1. Open Settings app on your iPhone
  2. Tap on General > Reset > Reset all settings.
  3. When prompted, enter your device passcode.
  4. Tap on the popup to confirm all settings reset.

Unlike a factory reset, this method will not affect any data on your iPhone, so you don’t have to back up files beforehand. When the process is completed, your iPhone will reboot by itself. Wait until it boots up, connect your device to a Wi-Fi network and then retry connecting to the App Store to check whether it works.

Solution 5: Factory reset your iPhone XR

If none of above method helps, the problem may be more complicated. However, since it’s a software-related issue, the problem can still be fixed by using a more advanced solution, which is a factory reset at this point. This method will wipe everything on your iPhone and then restore it to the default factory settings. If you want to proceed, back up all your personal data and then do the following steps:

  1. Launch the Settings app on your phone
  2. Tap on General > Reset > Erase all content and settings.
  3. Enter your device passcode when prompted to continue the process
  4. Tap on the popup to confirm a full system reset.

Wait for the process to complete and your phone will automatically boot up. You simply finish the initial setup process. After that, connect your iPhone XR to Wi-Fi, sign your Apple ID into the App Store by heading to Settings-> iTunes & App Store menu and you will see App Store now works properly.
