If you are a fan of AirPlay, you should know how to use it to stream video or mirror your iPhone or Mac screen to Apple TV or other compatible speakers. However, until now, there is no official way that allows mirroring an iOS device’s screen to Mac or Windows PC. But it does not mean there is no way to circumvent the obstacle.
A few third-party tools like Reflector, AirServer, and X-Mirage allow you to mirror your iPhone screen to your computer. Since they are available for free trial, you can give them a try before deciding to buy the premium version or not. Once you have installed the app, you can then stream content intuitively.
How to Mirror iOS Device Screen to a Mac/Windows PC
Step 1: First of all, install one of above tools on your computer. Here, we are going to test X-Mirage since it makes the task more straightforward. Once you have successfully installed the application, simply launch it on your computer.
Note: Make sure both your iPhone/iPad and computer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Step 2: Next, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open up Control Center.
Note: If you are using iPhone X, swipe down from the top right corner to bring Control center.
Step 3: Next, select screen mirroring icon
Step 4: You will now see a list of available devices showing up on the screen. Just select your computer. Your screen will now start mirroring from your iPhone/iPad to the computer.
To stop mirroring the screen on your computer, simply access Control Center, tap on screen mirroring icon and then Stop Mirroring your device.
Can’t See AirPlay on Your iPhone?
If the AirPlay icon does not appear on your iOS device, make sure that the firewall does not block your devices from communicating. Additionally, you should also make sure to keep both of your devices close and they are connected to the same Wi-Fi. So, you should disable the firewall on your computer first.
On macOS Device:
Step 1: Click on Apple menu locating at the top left corner and choose System Preferences.
Step 2: Now, click on Security (Security & Privacy) → Firewall tab.
Step 3: Choose the tiny circle for Firewall Off.
On Windows PC:
Step 1: Launch Control Panel and then click on System and Security.
Step 2: Now, click on Windows Firewall.
Step 3: On the left of the “Windows Firewall” screen, check the option and turn Windows Firewall off.
Note: Once you get AirPlay content, ensure to enable Firewall on your computer again since it’s a significant security feature.
Furthermore, make sure your iPad must be iPad 2 or later, iPad Air or later, iPad Mini or iPad Pro. If you are using iPhone, you need to have iPhone 4s or later models. Your Mac must also be running OS X 10.6 version and later and Windows computer needs to run on Windows XP or newer.
